Clothes are meant to be fun and expressive, but finding clothes that are both cute and appropriate can be challenging when current trends are anything but modest.

While everyone has a different definition of what modest means to them, these no-sewing-required modesty hacks can easily add that extra bit of coverage wherever you need it!

Over the years I’ve tried all sorts of fixes to try and make clothes work for me, and here are my 6 best tips:

1. Skirt Extenders or Half Slips

Somehow knee-length dresses always seem to be a little too short on me! Even though I know how to sew, adding length to a dress that looks natural is no easy feat.

An easy solution? Skirt extenders—or skenders as my family calls them.

There are a few styles to choose from, but they’re essentially half-slip skirts with some sort of lace or ruffle detail at the bottom that will provide the extra coverage you need while still looking cute and modern.

This white and black lace set is similar to what I have and I’ve loved them! This mermaid-style ruffle slip would look great if you wear more fitted pencil skirts and dresses!

      2. Safety Pins

I’m pretty sure you’ve heard about this modesty hack, but if you haven’t here it is: safety pins.

They’re the go-to for a reason! If you have a button-up shirt that’s gapping and won’t stay closed or a wrap dress that won’t comes apart when you sit down, simply safety pin the fabric together for a quick fix.

You can even get a set of safety pins that come in silver, gold, and black so they blend in perfectly with your clothes (on the off chance that they poke out of the seams, of course).

      3. Modesty Panels

With all of the low-cut and deep-v necklines that are out there, having a set of modesty panels or cleavage covers makes it easy to stay modest without adding extra layers!

These modesty panels clip to your bra straps so they’ll stay in place while giving you just the right amount of coverage. They come in both plain cotton and lacey materials so that you can match the color and style with your top.

      4. Leggings & Tights

Leggings and opaque tights aren’t the most dressy look and, in my opinion, don’t offer quite enough coverage for shorter dresses, but they’re always a good option to have on hand for more casual outfits.

I love wearing tights with my knee-length dresses in the fall and winter to add a little more warmth and flair to my outfits! If I have a longer tunic-style top that covers my butt, leggings are also good option.

Another fun layer to try? Patterned or knit tights! Animal print, striped, and cable knit tights add a fun touch to your ‘fit.

      5. Iron on Patches

I wear jeans a majority of the time, and they usually don’t last longer than a year before my thighs rip a hole through them. These denim iron-on patches are a great way to reinforce the thighs or cover the holes from the inside to extend the life of your pants!

Iron-on patches are also a great choice to add more coverage to (intentionally) ripped jeans with holes that are bigger or higher than you’d like. You can still get the casual and trendy ripped jeans look without sacrificing your values with this easy modesty hack.

      6. Cropped Camis and Tees

Growing up, camis and tank tops were my go-to for too-short or low-cut shirts. Since going through the temple and wearing garments, my new go-to modesty hack is half tees or cropped camis when I need to add sleeve length or neckline coverage.

They add just the right amount of coverage without making me too hot during the warmer months! I especially love the half tees for wearing under spaghetti strap dresses or with skirts.

All the coverage with none of the bulk!

I hope you’ve found a new modesty hack or two to try out! Now go out and wear what you love, not what the world tells you to wear!
