My husband and I found a few of the best apps for couples that have made this transition easier (including one app for long-distance couples).
I use all of these apps weekly, if not daily, and they’ve really made a difference in making sure my husband and I are on the same page and making everyday tasks a little bit easier.
Best of all, some of these apps may already be on your phone! They’re all well-known, commonly-used apps that, when utilized properly, will strengthen your relationship.

How to Stay in Sync Using Apps for Couples
Learning to live with someone comes with a whole new set of challenges and difficulties.
Both of you were raised to do things in two completely different ways and now have to figure out the way that you will do things together.
There are so many little things that will need to be communicated to make sure you’re both on the same page, and it can be hard to remember and make sure your spouse is aware of them.
It could be as small as asking your husband to pick up an extra ingredient while he’s at the grocery store on his way home.
When he stops at the store after work there’s a good chance he will have to call to double-check what it is that you wanted him to pick up.
If you had a shared grocery list this could be easily avoided. Don’t get me wrong, I love phone calls with my husband, but it’s nice to know he has access to the information he needs when he’s out and about so he doesn’t have to call to check with me for every little thing that comes up.
Best Everyday Apps for Couples
There are so many apps that can be utilized in ways that will benefit your marriage. I recommend keeping it simple in the beginning and using just a few apps to cover the basics.

Here are the exact apps that I use that have made my marriage stronger and helped me and my husband to stay in sync.

Best App for Couples to Share Location
As a married couple (or even while dating, on a smaller scale) you’ve been entrusted to watch out for your significant other on a whole new level.
You are now the person who is responsible for making sure they’re safe and keeping track of where they are/should be so you’ll know if something is wrong.
One of the easiest ways to do this is to download an app that allows you to see their location. Our favorite app to do this is Life360.
Is Life360 Good for Relationships?
My husband and I both appreciate the peace of mind that Life360 brings, especially when he’s away for work. When he’s gone for the week I can easily check in and make sure he’s okay, or see how far away he is when he’s driving home.
This is extremely helpful because it reduces my stress as I know he’s safe. It’s also convenient if I’m making dinner because I can always check in and know when to expect him without having to contact him while he’s driving.
Life360 would also be a beneficial long-distance relationship app. When you can’t be with your loved ones, knowing where they are will bring immense peace and comfort.
One thing to keep in mind with this kind of app; it isn’t one of those apps for couples with trust issues—at least, it isn’t meant to be used in this way.
If either of you is uncomfortable with the idea of your significant other knowing where you are at all times then this isn’t the app for you, and that’s okay. Everyone should feel comfortable, loved, and respected in their relationship.
Best App for Couples to Share Lists
One of the great things about marriage is that you now have someone to split everyday tasks and chores with. Odds are there are some things that one of you hates doing that the other doesn’t mind. This makes it easy to divide and conquer.
The only problem is, it can be hard to keep track of these tasks. I typically have a mental to-do list and know the upcoming tasks and which ones are higher priority, but that doesn’t mean my husband does.
During the time I’ve been married, and even while dating, it’s become very apparent to me that men and women think very differently. This isn’t a bad thing, it’s just something to keep in mind.
In order to keep both you and your spouse on the same page you can use shared digital lists to organize your tasks and keep track of important information.
Google Keep makes it easy to share to-do lists, grocery lists, and weekly meal plans, to name a few examples.
Having a shared version of these lists means you will both be able to see what needs to be done and know when something has been completed on the list.
For example, if your husband notices you’re almost out of bread he can add it to your shared grocery list. If you happen to be at the store later that day you can check the shared list to see what you need and then cross off bread when you’ve picked it up.
This organizational system can help eliminate duplicate purchases and allow for easy access for everyone! Most people want to help their spouse but often don’t know what they can or should do.
With a shared list both of you can be helpful and productive without either of you feeling like you had to nag or ask for help, or feeling like you have to be a mind reader in order to make your significant other happy. It’s a win-win!
Best App for Couples to Share Schedules
Life gets crazy sometimes. It can be hard enough to manage your own schedule, not to mention also keeping track of your spouse’s.
One easy trick to make sure you’re both aware of upcoming events and plans is to create a shared calendar. Google Calendar is a great app to use to do just that.
It’s actually pretty easy to set up, too!
First, add all of your upcoming plans: vacations, date nights, get-togethers, appointments, due dates, etc.
You can even color coordinate to make things easier to find visually.
For example, I typically use red for any bills or due dates, orange for events, blue for appointments, and so on.
Once you have everything on your calendar, you can share it with your spouse’s Gmail account.
From there, they will be able to add their own appointments and events so you can each see each others’ schedules and things you need to keep on your radar.
You can even add a Google Calendar widget to the home screen on your phone to make it even easier to stay up-to-date with your schedule. That’s what I do, and it helps me stay on top of things so I don’t miss important dates.
Best App for Couples to Share Photos
Photos are one of the best ways to capture memories. Both you and your spouse have favorite photos from throughout your relationship that are meaningful and precious to you.
Modern technology gives us all the power to capture as many pictures as we want, which is amazing! I’m a visual person, so I definitely appreciate having a picture to help me reminisce and visualize my favorite moments.
One of the biggest problems with everyone having their own cameras is that it can be hard to make sure everyone has access to photos when they weren’t taken on their phone.
I’m sure you’ve been to a party or event where you’re having group photos taken and someone asks for a separate picture to be taken on their phone. It gets a little tedious when you have to take individual pictures on each person’s smart device—why do we feel the need to do this, if the photo already exists why are we taking multiples?
For one reason: sharing photos can be challenging. You can text them over but that will severely diminish the quality of the pictures.
You could email them but that’s not nearly as convenient; plus, you can only email a handful of pictures at a time (last I checked I think the limit was 4-6).
There’s got to be a better way to share pictures with loved ones!
Now you may have noticed a theme here: you guessed it, I’m about to recommend another Google app. I know I know…but hear me out.
Google apps are great for a couple of reasons:
- Google apps are easy to access from anywhere! You can use them on your phone and access them from your computer, and the information stored in them isn’t tied to your phone. That means if something happened and you lost your phone, your notes are still accessible through your Google account. Trying to access your traditional notes app without having your phone isn’t nearly as easy, if at all possible.
- There’s a good chance you already have one or more of these apps, making it that much easier to start using them to stay in sync with your spouse.
- They’re actually the apps that my husband and I use—I wouldn’t want to make a recommendation based on an app I’ve never even tried. My goal is to keep it real and provide real information that’s actually useful to you.
So if you want a better way to share your favorite memories, Google Photos is the perfect solution.
You can create a new shared album and share photos with your friend, girlfriend, spouse, grandma, or anyone else in a matter of minutes. That’s what my husband and I did when we first started dating and it’s been a great way for both of us to access our pictures.
It was fun to see the visual timeline of our relationship building, and it was also a great tool to put together our photo slideshow for our wedding as all of our pictures were already in one place.
We actually created a Google Photos folder for all of our guests to share wedding pictures to, and I’m so glad we did! We got to see friends and family having fun at our reception and got some great candid shots that we never would have seen without the shared folder.
Pro tip: you can also order photos through the Google Photos app! Whenever I need photos printed I can select the pictures I want, crop them, and send the order to my local Walmart for convenient, same-day pickup. It’s the best!
Best App for Couples to Share Finances
A joint bank account is something every couple can benefit from; however, both of you must have access to the account.
This may seem like a no-brainer, but I thought it was important to include it on this list. Both you and your spouse should download the mobile banking app for your bank. Create a shared log-in so you both have access to your accounts and can keep an eye on your finances.
With two sets of eyes on your account, you’re a lot more likely to notice any suspicious activity and you can keep track of your spending compared to your budget.
If you each have financial goals within your budget, having a shared mobile banking app login makes it easy to hold each other accountable for meeting those goals you’ve set.
Apps can be a powerful tool, and there are so many ways that you can use them to stay in sync with your partner and make everyday tasks a little bit easier.
By using apps like Life360, Google Keep, Google Calendar, Google Photos, and your mobile banking app, you and your spouse can have peace of mind, share important lists, combine schedules, share photos, and keep an eye on your finances together.
After all, a relationship is all about finding the best ways to work together to create a life that both of you love. I hope you and your significant other will try using a few of these apps in order to do just that.
